Ford is to slash the list prices of its bestselling models in a move that will save private buyers and company car drivers thousands of pounds, but put a multi-million pound dent in the Treasury's coffers.

The car giant has already cut about £3,000 from the list price of its Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy models, but now plans to extend the reductions to the Focus, Fiesta and Ka.
